In September 2020 the Emmaus Youth Group received a $500 service grant from the Potomac Association to build a Little Free Pantry, a project that was chosen by the Emmaus Youth Group members. The mini pantry movement is a grassroots, crowdsourced solution to immediate and local need. Whether a need for food or a need to give, mini pantries help feed neighbors, nourishing neighborhoods.
Over the course of 3 weekends in November, the Youth Group members gathered to construct and install the Pantry. The LFP has been up and running since and has gotten significant publicity on local social media groups (Vienna Foodies, Vienna Virtual Community).
The Youth Group checks and stocks the LFP weekly, but anyone can check the LFP throughout the week if you happen to be at the church. We keep a bin of extra supplies for the LFP in the coat closet and welcome support and donations. We also have a labeled box at the front door where donations can be left if the pantry is full.
Food donation boxes are located by the main church doors.
