Minister of Faith Formation and Mission
Emmaus United Church of Christ is an open and affirming congregation, 125 members strong, located in Vienna, VA. We are a vibrant, growing congregation of families and singles, in all stages of life, many of whom are working in positions of great responsibility or have served distinguished careers at home and abroad. We come from various faith traditions and appreciate the many ways we study Christ’s influence, both historically, and through his relevance to our daily lives.
Emmaus United Church of Christ is seeking an energetic, passionate person to provide Christian educational and spiritual growth experiences to children and adults. He or she will also recruit and support volunteer teachers and assistants, and encourage family members in the ministry of educating their children. The Minister of Faith Formation and Mission will work with key lay leaders to vision and execute our mission programs, engaging all ages in deepening their understanding of the church's call to care for "the least of these." Faith formation and mission are an integral part of our church identity. The Minister of Faith Formation and Mission, working with the Senior Minister, will participate in planning, leadership, preaching and integrating our children into community worship.
We maintain an average weekly worship of 70 adults and 35-40 children. We will hold a second Vacation Bible School week and our middle and high school youth are looking forward to a week-long international mission trip this summer. The congregation is looking forward to our third all-church weekend retreat this fall. Our adult faith formation leaders have greatly expanded our adult education programming and are committed to caring for those in need, along with many ongoing mission activities. Emmaus hosts an annual Hunger Action month filled with intergenerational activities and teaching moments. Monthly, we gather for intergenerational worship and are exploring new creative ideas to engage all ages in the worship of our Creator.
